Town Festival 2010 Print E-mail

Thank you to everybody that took part, supported and enjoyed the Festival fortnight in 2010.

Despite fierce competition from the underwhelming FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon and the stunning weather the majority of events were very well attended and good fun. In particular we had lots of positive comments from you all to say that the Parade was a vast improvement and had the most representation we have seen for many years. Hundreds of town residents and shoppers turned out on route to cheer over 25 entrants. Our heartfelt thanks to all who took part as the floats and walking entries were full of joy, colour and song. In particular, congratulations to all our winners. The overall Carnival Parade winner was Woodlands School with their vibrant float.

Other events of note included a new entry in the calendar - Elstree and Borehamwood's Got Talent. The Ark theatre hosted a sell out audience who all came along to see if there really is talent in this town. We can categorically say "YES!" as 12 local acts took to the stage and proved to everybody that we have much to be proud of. The winners, K's School of Dance with their "Circus of Disturbia" dance piece were the popular pick of a very strong programme. We look forward to seeing what they return with next year as reigning champions and who can challenge them for the title. Maybe the host will show a little more talent too!

Our thanks to the England team for falling on the sword prior to the Quarter Finals as Families Day inherited top-billing on Saturday 3rd July. An estimated 5000 of you came along and enjoyed a fantastic Summer afternoon, supporting many community stalls as well as seeing some excellent live arena acts.

The programme contained over 40 events this year, making it one of the largest ever Festivals that Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council has organised. We hope you had a chance to attend at least one of them. However, we are always open to new ideas and welcome your feedback at any time. Please do contact the Events Office at Fairway Hall and help us make it even better next year.

If you want to get involved and shape the way the Festival and other events in Elstree and Borehamwood are organised why not come to the Entertainments Forum where all future events are planned. The first of which is scheduled for Tuesday 14th September 6.30pm as the Town Council Offices, Fairway Hall.
